Dallas Good Enough For Oakland

Tony Romo passed for 309 yards and two touchdowns with Miles Austin catching seven passes for 145 yards and a touchdown for the Cowboys, who are 8-3 for the season.
It marked the fourth loss in five games for the Raiders, who failed to build on last weekend's win over the Cincinnati Bengals. The Green Bay Packers claimed their third successive win, convincingly beating the Detroit Lions 34-12. The Packers (7-4) pulled away in the second and third quarter, scoring 27 unanswered points with Aaron Rodgers throwing three touchdown passes. Kyle Orton and Knowshon Moreno touched down as the Denver Broncos eased past the New York Giants 26-6.

Australia And Germany Are In Winning Side

Grant Schubert starred for the Aussies, scoring thrice in the first half to virtually seal it for his team. Meanwhile, in another game played on Sunday, South Korea stunned Germany, getting the better of the Olympic Champions in a 5-3 win. Soo-Kyuk Yang latched on to a pass from Hyo-Sik You to score for the South Koreans. Matthias Witthaus, flicking into the top of goal from 10 metres out, and Jan-Marco Montag's conversion of Germany's second penalty corner put the world champions 2-1 up three minutes into the second half but South Korea were too hot to handle on the day. They attacked Germany’s backfield with long passes to get four goals in a mere 20 minutes.

Is It The Right Time For 4G Network?

There's been a lot of talk in 2009 about the next generation of wireless technology, known as 4G wireless broadband, but the current generation of 3G wireless technology is far from dead. For many wireless operators, especially those that have built their networks using the global standard GSM, the current 3G wireless technology called HSPA still has some legs left. And while many carriers are planning their 4G networks, hundreds of wireless providers throughout the world are also expected to upgrade existing network infrastructure with the latest versions of the 3G wireless technology to increase speeds and offer new services.
And because these network speeds will match current 4G speeds, consumers will likely see no difference in capability. For this reason, the next few years will likely continue to be all about 3G technology. And 4G services, where they will be available, will likely appeal only to niche audiences. "The average consumer doesn't care about peak data rates or network acronyms," said Dan Warren, the GSM Association's director of technology. "They just care about the experience. They want to be able to watch YouTube or get live traffic updates on their smartphones. And they don't care whether it's a new network or a current network that is being upgraded."
Mobile operators around the world are seeing a huge growth in the amount of mobile data traffic across their networks. This trend is expected to continue as more consumers buy smartphone and jump onto the mobile Web. By 2014, mobile devices are expected to send and receive more data in one month than in all of 2008. Three-quarters of this traffic will be attributed to Internet access, while nearly all the rest will be due to music and video streaming, the GSM Association recently said. The new usage patterns will put strains on carrier networks, and operators are planning now to keep up with demand. Already, AT&T, which is the exclusive carrier for the iPhone in the U.S., is struggling to keep up with the heavy data usage.
While 4G networks will certainly increase network speeds and capacity, these networks and the devices that can be used on these networks will not be built overnight. This is why many carriers who are looking to meet demands today are turning toward advanced 3G upgrades. T-Mobile USA, the smallest of the major U.S. wireless operators, has adopted this strategy. The company is currently upgrading its existing HSPA network, which launched just last year, to HSPA Plus, the most advanced 3G technology available. It has already started testing the new service in Philadelphia. And the company expects to deploy the lion's share of its upgrade across its entire footprint in 2010.
Meanwhile other operators, such as Verizon Wireless and Sprint Nextel are looking toward 4G technologies. To the 4th power: WiMax vs. LTE
Two technologies dominate the 4G landscape: WiMax and LTE. In the WiMax corner is a company called Clearwire, which is backed by Sprint and Intel, as well as the nation's biggest cable operators, Comcast and Time Warner Cable. The company is currently building its network and has 13 cities up and running with service.
In the LTE corner is the rest of the wireless industry, including at least 50 mobile operators worldwide that have already committed to LTE plans, trials or deployments.
The first LTE networks, including one being built by Verizon Wireless here in the U.S., are expected to be rolled out next year. NTT DoComo of Japan and TeliaSonera of Sweden have also committed to deploying LTE next year. That said, major network expansions aren't expected until at least 2011. One of the problems that 4G carriers will face is that initially their networks will be islands of service. And it will take years for operators to blanket the country with their services.

UK Banks Top Earners Are In Trouble

Big banks will have to disclose how many of their UK employees are paid more than £1million ($1.65M) under recommendations to be published today by City banker Sir David Walker. Sir David will say that half the bonuses paid to employees should be deferred for three to five years. He will also propose that non-executive directors be given more responsibility for pay and risk, and ask institutional shareholders to engage more with the companies in which they invest.
On pay, Sir David goes well beyond disclosure requirements in other countries. Remuneration for those earning more than £1M would be disclosed in £5M ($8.3M) pay bands. He said: "This will cause howls of outrage from the banking community." A review of governance for listed companies due next week should consider extending his recommendations to all FTSE 100 companies, he said.
Angela Knight, chief executive of the British Bankers' Association said: "Disclosure regimes need to be on an international basis... so that the UK doesn't find itself out on its own."
Recommendations for banks and other financial services companies include annual election of board chairmen, specific time commitments from non-executives and the creation of board-level risk committees. The government, which assigned Sir David to carry out the review, said it would move quickly to implement the recommendations. It has included provisions for mandatory pay disclosure in the financial services bill put forward last week.
Alistair Darling, the chancellor, said: "Sir David's proposals are the blueprint for how banks must be run ... in the future." Back in the summer, when Sir David Walker published the draft version of his review of corporate governance at financial services companies, hard-nosed bankers laid into the bureaucracy and populism that they said underpinned his recommendations. With a few tweaks, those reforms are today being toughened into formal proposals -- with a plan for some guidelines to be backed up with legislative powers.

Man Dies Inside The Cave

A Utah man trapped for more than 26 hours in a crevice of a popular cave tourist attraction died as rescuers struggled to save him, authorities said Thursday. John Edward Jones, 26, of Stansbury Park was stuck in the Nutty Putty Cave, which sits west of Utah Lake near Cedar Valley, according to the sheriff's office of Utah County. The cave is 55 to 60 miles south of Salt Lake City.
Sheriff's officials said Jones entered the cave at around 6 p.m. Tuesday with a group of about 11 people and became stuck about 8:45 p.m. in a "tightly confined" feature inside Nutty Putty Cave called "Bob's Push." Utah County sheriff's spokesman Sgt. Spencer Cannon told CNN affiliate KSL that Jones was trapped upside down in a crevice that was about 18 inches wide and about 10 inches high. The crevice is about 150 feet below the surface and about 700 feet from the cave entrance, according to the sheriff's department.
"They had him to a level spot where he wasn't heading downhill with his head below his feet," Cannon said. "During the course of that, they have a raising system to hold him in position, and one of the devices of that system failed, and Mr. Jones actually fell back to the area where he had been stuck for so long."
Shortly before midnight on Wednesday, rescuers got close enough to Jones to conclude that he was not breathing and he had no pulse. Rescue officials were meeting Thursday to determine how to recover Jones' body. Rescuers had tried to reach Jones for more than 24 hours, but had problems navigating the treacherous terrain, Cannon said.

Van Persie In The Injury List

The Arsenal striker suffered the injury to his right leg in the 10th minute of Saturday's goalless draw against Italy in Pescara. He was carried off on a stretcher following a heavy challenge from Azzurri defender Giorgio Chiellini and tests realised Wenger's worst fears.
A KNVB statement yesterday evening read: "Robin van Persie has partially torn the ligaments in his right ankle. Tests in hospital today have confirmed this." Van Persie claims he will be out for up to six weeks.
He told Dutch television programme Studio Voetbal: "I have had a scan.
"I am probably out for between four and six weeks."
He did, however, absolve Juventus defender Chiellini of blame, adding: "There was no intent." The Dutchman has scored eight goals in 15 games in all competitions this season and emerged as one of the Gunners' key figures.
His injury comes at a bad time for Wenger, whose attacking stocks have also been reduced by Nicklas Bendtner's groin injury, which he picked up in the recent 3-0 north London derby win against Tottenham. Bendtner is expected to be out for at least another two weeks.
Van Persie scored twice in that victory over Spurs - revelling in his new role at the head of a 4-3-3 formation - with Wenger afterwards describing him as a mixture of club legends Thierry Henry and Dennis Bergkamp.

Mercedez Benz Take Over Brawn F1

Mercedes-Benz will head up their own Formula One team next season after the German car manufacturer confirmed they have taken a 75.1 percent share in Brawn GP -- with Ross Brawn remaining as team principal. Mercedes engines powered Brawn's Jenson Button to the world championship this season -- while the team also claimed the constructors' championship.
Meanwhile, Lewis Hamilton, Button's predecessor as world champion, was also sitting behind a Mercedes engine in his McLaren. The partnership between McLaren and Mercedes has been in place since 1995 and ended its 15th season together in 2009. The new team will become known as Mercedes Grand Prix, with Brawn in control, while Mercedes-Benz Motorsport vice-president Norbert Haug will work with the F1 team and the engine team of Mercedes-Benz High Performance Engines.
As part of the deal, Mercedes' parent company Daimler AG relinquished their 40 per cent stake in McLaren, but will remain their engine suppliers for the next six seasons. Daimler AG chief executive Dr. Dieter Zetsche explained in a press release: "Mercedes-Benz is the most valued and best-known premium automotive brand in the world. "This brand looks for competition of the utmost quality in all relevant fields in order to continually improve its performance in the face of such new challenges.

Diego Maradona Ban For Two Months

This is punishment for his outburst following the World Cup qualifier against Uruguay last month. Maradona hit out at his critics following his side's 1-0 win in Montevideo on October 14, which secured their place at next summer's finals in South Africa. The 49-year-old apologised for his comments at the hearing in Zurich today but FIFA opted to impose the ban as well as a £14,800 fine.
Maradona took over as Argentina head coach in November last year and was fiercely criticised for his handling of the national team's World Cup qualification campaign.
The former World Cup winner used over 70 players before the team finally earned qualification to the finals with victory in their last match against neighbours Uruguay. It was after that match that Maradona unleashed a foul-mouthed tirade at the media and prompted FIFA to act. Maradona's ban is effective immediately meaning he will not be able to return to coach his country until January 16.
"The committee reached this decision following a three-hour meeting at the Home of FIFA in Zurich," a statement from FIFA read. "The head coach of Argentina was heard by the committee during 40 minutes and apologised to FIFA and the world football family. "The committee took into consideration the apologies and the sincere remorse shown by Maradona in its decision, which was communicated to him at the end of the meeting.

Will It Be John Terry Or Wayne Rooney

England and Chelsea captain John Terry is the heartbeat of the Blues side - leading by example and instilling a never-say-die attitude. Big, strong and vastly experienced Terry is a player who relishes the big occasion and loves a challenge - so expect him to be at his imperial best this weekend. Organisation is one of his big strengths so look out for him screaming and yelling at his teammates, ensuring that Chelsea defend as a unit rather than as individuals.
He is also excellent in the air, quick to close players down and a threat at corners and set-plays. Terry will try to draw the temperamental Rooney into a physical confrontation - as he knows that the United man has the edge in pace and skill. If he can stick tight to Rooney, force him to play with his back to goal and get in the odd crunching tackle then expect to see his opponent get frustrated and the Chelsea man to come out on top.
Rooney will be looking to celebrate the recent birth of his baby boy with a victory at Stamford Bridge. He is probably playing his best football ever for club and country right now, and his unique mixture of skill and aggression poses a grave danger to Chelsea. In a footballing sense Rooney is cleverer than people give him credit for - he will drop deep to pull defenders out of position and give himself room to turn and run at people.
He also has the strength to hold the ball up and the vision to play his teammates in on goal. His enthusiasm and passion for the game burn for all to see, and in that way he is a great inspiration for his teammates who look to emulate his commitment. Rooney is also capable of a piece of magic that can turn the game in a split second - a mazy dribble, a cannonball shot or an audacious chip from near the half-way line.
Rooney will look to torment Terry by moving him around the park, taking him out of his comfort zone and using his superior pace and technique to expose him. If United can get the ball to his feet in the danger areas, allowing him to run at Terry then it could be the men in red who are rejoicing at the end of the match.

Will It Be Frank Lampard Or Darren Fletcher

If it's measured in commitment, consistency, leadership and vital goals then Frank Lampard is THE MAN at Chelsea. He works his socks off each and every game, provides the link between defence and attack, and gets other players playing. After breaking a recent goal-drought normal service has been resumed - so look out for Frank getting on the score sheet from a trademark late surge into the box or a strike from around the box.
His understanding with Drogba and Anelka spells danger for the United rearguard as he can unpick the tightest of defences with a slide-rule pass or a clever flick. Lampard is an all-action player so expect him to be heavily involved at both ends of the pitch. If United give him too much time and space he will dictate the play and put Chelsea on the front foot - a dangerous proposition.
Darren Fletcher may not be the most skillful player on the United roster - but he is without doubt one of the most influential.
As the fabled United midfield has either aged (Scholes and Giggs) or departed (Keane and Beckham) it has fallen to Fletcher to provide the 'spark' and 'energy' that the team desperately need. His conditioning allows him to harry the opposition for 90 minutes - putting pressure on the ball-carrier, tracking runs and making United a hard team to break down. Offensively he sets the high-tempo that United play at when at their best. Driving forward he brings both wingers into play and supports the front two of Rooney and Berbatov.
Fletcher will look to break up the slick passing game of Chelsea and play at a tempo that the likes of Deco and Malouda find uncomfortable. If he can do this United will be difficult to beat.

Will It Be Didier Drogba Or Jonny Evans

Chelsea come into this game full of confidence and none more so than their principle strike-weapon Didier Drogba. Defenders know exactly what they are up against when Drogba is playing - pure power and pace. The problem is being able to deal with it.
Drogba will look to physically impose himself on the young defender from the start - so look out for him trying to bully Evans in the air and using his body strength to turn the youngster if he gets too tight.
Playing high up the pitch he is a master at holding the ball up before bringing others into play - be it Nicholas Anelka or a breaking midfielder such as Ballack or Lampard. A much improved finisher since he arrived at Stamford Bridge he rarely needs more than one chance to get on the score sheet - and obviously is a major threat at set-pieces with his height. If Drogba can un-nerve the Irishman early on then expect him to score and for Chelsea to come out on top.
According to Sir Alex Ferguson young defender Jonny Evans is the future of Manchester United.Having forged a reputation in the United youth and reserve teams he now seems to have his manager's confidence and that in itself must give him huge belief. Despite his young age he has a very calm and composed manner and goes about his game with the minimum of fuss, refusing to be overawed by his opponent regardless of who it is.
He also has a good footballing brain - allowing him to snuff out danger before it arrives with a well timed interception or a good piece of positioning. He is strong, has a decent turn of pace and is comfortable on the ball - but is prone to the odd lapse in concentration. His challenge will be to stand up to the physical challenge presented by Drogba, and to stay switched on for the full 90 minutes. If he can do that and perform to his maximum then he could frustrate the big striker and help his side to a memorable result.
